Selection of Land

GOLDEN RULES:

While selection of a plot of land follow the golden rules of Vaastu given below.

1. Land with low soil density, porous or marshy soil is not good for construction.

2. Land which is fertile, has soil of good quality, of sweet smell and taste and not sandy or hollow, is considered very auspicious for construction.

3. Land which emits positive energy is good. Stand at the centre of the site, close your eyes and concentrate on your thoughts and feelings calmly. A land emitting positive, peaceful and energizing feelings and thoughts should be purchased. 

4. Square and rectangular plots are best. Plots with round, triangular, polygonal and other odd shapes may always lead one into some problem or the other. Avoid irregular shapes as far as possible. For rectangular plots, length of the plot should not be more than twice its breadth.

5. Avoid plots in the shape of triangle, circle or oval and other irregular shapes.

6. In case you possess land which is irregular in shape, then Vaastu corrections must be carried out before construction. 

7. If you already own a plot of land and are considering buying additional land, avoid buying land that is to the south-west, south, west and south-east of your plot. Extensions are good in north, east and north-east directions only. 

8. Avoid purchasing a smaller plot in between two bigger plots.

9. The plot should have slope towards north or east or north-east to ensure all round prosperity and health.

10. Avoid proximity to religious places, factories and places with a high noise level. Also avoid sites near burial grounds and cemeteries. 

11. Sites with a growth towards north-east are favourable.

12. North and east-facing plots are considered good for residential purposes.

13. West-facing plots are good for commercial purposes.

14. South-facing plots are considered good for commercial establishments dealing in food and entertainment business.

15. North-east corner sites are best.

16. Gomukhi plots are good for residential purpose but not as commercial plots.

17. Sher-mukhi plots are good for commercial purpose but unfavourable for residential purpose.

18. Plots which have thrusting roads, i.e. :roads which are pointing at the plot, have to be carefully analysed. Some of these roads have positive and negative energies. 

19. Big constructions, mountains, trees, etc. in south and west of the plot or building are good.

20. River/Stream in north and east are good. The flow should be from south to north or from west to east. 

21. Water sources, wells, borewell, underground water tank in south, south-west and south-east are inauspicious.

22. A temple in front, side or back of the plot is unfavourable especially if its shadow falls on the plot or building.

23. Underground water sources like wells, borewell, underground water tanks are auspicious in north east only.

24. No high-tension wire should pass above the plot.

25. Vedha like big tree, electronic poles, open well or protrude corner of another house or building should not be directly opposite the site or house.

26. Even though corner sites are preferred and are sold at a premium, Vastu advocates that caution be exercised in purchasing corner sites. Sites with roads on the north and east are best.

27. Always go in for a plot which is oriented to the cardinal directions, viz. north, east, south and west. 

28. Avoid plots which are not oriented towards the cardinal directions. These are called Vidisha plots. Vidisha plots can be balanced in case other factors related to selection of a plot like direction, surroundings and quality of soil, are favourable. Construction should be parallel to the boundaries of the plot.

29. Plots which face a T-junction or Y-junction are considered unfavourable, as these roads point at the plot with lot of intensive energy.
