JUPITER - the Granter of God's Benediction and Limitless Expansion

Jupiter, called by the name of Brihaspati or Brahmanspati in the Vedas. Brihaspati is concerned with rituals, the perpetuation of established codes of behavior and traditional systems of relationships, imparting knowledge and wisdom rather than leading individuals to the more difficult spiritual task of release from birth and death, Venus possesses the secret of immortality which releases the individual from the cycle of incarnations; and Saturn may impart the secrets of life or guide the individual in transcending the illusory world, Surprisingly, Jupiter does not vibrate at the same wave-length as these planets. Jupiter is jiva, the personal soul, and represents the principle of life as expressed by the vital breath; Jupiter has a great influence in imparting the life, motion and sensation which increase the intensity of living.

In predictive astrology, Jupiter is related to one's good (righteous) behavior, offspring knowledge, good (especially male), religious vocations or high status in advisory capacity, the teaching profession, magnanimity of heart and generosity of disposition. the Vedas and religious scriptures, prosperity and affluence, devotion and faith, wealth, happiness in conjugal life, honor and status, and compassion. These qualities are expressions of the basic disposition of the planet. In adverse situations, Jupiter can produce cerebral congestion, abscess, dropsy, flatulence, hernia and liver complaints. Jupiterians have a tendency to be easily pleased, and even the afflictions caused by Jupiter are amenable to quick propitiation by mantras, rituals, and offerings to Brahmins.

Jupiter is very well placed in the Fifth house, connected with creativity. Whatever the person's level of functioning or sphere of activity, the Jovian influence will accentuate his creative tendencies and provide immense opportunities for creative urges to manifest. Being spiritually oriented, Jupiter in the Fifth house is not conducive to progeny, but it makes the individual spiritually inclined and averse to material bondage. In the Ninth, Jupiter is at its best; it activates the meritorious karma of the individual and enables him to reap the consequences. Status, psychological orientation, religious attitudes, health and creativity are very favorably influenced. In the Ascendant, Jupiter gives a good healthy body and a religious mind; in the Tenth house the individual is well spoken of, but one must not expect a very prosperous life unless Jupiter is supported by other planets.

The association of Jupiter with the Moon is extremely beneficial. If these two planets are conjunct, in aspect, or in kendras (angular houses) from each other, prosperity and solutions to all difficulties will result. This is one of the most auspicious relationships possible between planets: it purifies the mind of the person and guides his actions in the right direction. Such a person will hardly to grief through any fault of his own. In association with Saturn, the nature of Jupiter is greatly cramped, and the stifling impact becomes very frustrating. The Nodes of the Moon also do not produce harmony, but they greatly destroy the nobility of Jupiter. Jupiter is very much in its element when it forms any relationship with Mars or the Sun.

Jupiter is connected with the welfare of humanity and the production of religious feelings. It does not minimize the importance of material existence. The Jovian influence includes physical welfare as well as the religious transformation of the psyche. It gives a positive approach to life. Such a person believes in God in every form of creation. For him, working for God implies working for humanity.
