OVERHEAD BEAM

OVERHEAD BEAM

Overhead beams are a problem when something of major use is put under a beam. When chairs, desks or beds are placed below an overhead beam they cause headache, ill health, bad luck and relationship problems.

The bed should not be placed under a beam. The person sleeping in this position is likely to experience health problems in the part of body that is lying under beam. For example, if the sleeping position is such that the beam crosses over the person's chest, he or she would be prone to the problems related to that part of the body. Beams running lengthwise down the bed are likely to create marital disharmony and eventually drive the couple apart. It is advisable to shift the bed in such cases. However, at times it is not possible to shift the bed. In such cases it is better if the beam runs lengthwise down the bed, as this does not create major health problems. For marital harmony the beam should be remedied by hanging two bamboo flutes from it.

If the beam is over the gas stove, problems relating to finances can crop up. A beam over the front door entrance causes major problems and limits growth and new possibilities. A beam in the brahmasthana of a house oppresses the energy flow. The natural energy balance in the whole house is disturbed as the beam forces the energy downward, creating a feeling of weight or compression in the middle portion of the house.

The effect of vulnerable beams is greater on the lower floors as they have greater loads to bear, which gets transferred to lower floors.

The negative effect is lesser in case of high ceilings. Sometimes when there are multiple beams or when multiple beams on the ceiling have a decorative purpose only, it lessens the negative aspect of the beam as the load transfer is more uniform and not concentrated at one point.

It is better not to sit, work or sleep under a beam. To offset the negative effect of the beam, paint it the same colour as the ceiling. Another solution is to create a false ceiling to hide the beams. Take care not to bring the ceiling so low which can again be depressing. Placing colourful fringe work or nice fabric over or along the beams helps soften the effect of the beam. A very effective approach is to hang a bamboo flute at each end of the beam at a 45° angle with the face down. Hanging a round featured crystal ball or a wind chime from the centre of the beam helps diffuse the effect of the beam.
