PURVA PHALGUNI

This is an auspicious asterism, bestowing fortune and immense opportunity for creative involvement. Purva Phalguni extends from 133° 20' to 146° 40' (13° 20' to 26° 40' Leo). It occupies the central part of Leo and is motivated by the primary urge kama, or passion. The asterism is presided over by the Vedic deity Aryaman, who bestows riches, affluence and material prosperity. The Vedas speak of Aryaman as a deity who protects his devotees and makes them victorious over their adversaries. The passionate nature or deep attachment represented by kama is altered by Purva Phalguni despite great attachment, there is a unique quality of grace, self-reliance, and enormous creative action. The association of Aryaman as well as Bhaga with this asterism and its placement in the middle of Leo very appropriately describe its basic nature. Under this asterism the king arrives, the war is waged, and the religious observances begin, but the next phase of development has not yet been disclosed.
