SWATI

Swati lies in the middle of Libra, extending from 186° 40' to 200° 00' (6° 40' to 20° 00' Libra). Though the sign in which this asterism is placed is ruled by Venus, thus heightening earthy sensitivities and material attachments. The asterism itself is governed by Rahu, a karmic planet which activates the superphysical forces. To regulate them, the four quarters of Swati are assigned to Jupiter and Saturn, which have a significant role in developing spirituality. Jupiter encourages righteous behavior while Saturn stifles the materialistic proclivities by producing frustration. Swati functions under the primary and secondary attributes of tamas, while on the tertiary or external level sattwa prevails. The presiding deity of the asterism is Vayu, the god of air. Swati primarily operates as a chalice through which the Divine spirit flows to the physical level of manifestation. establishing a direct link between the inner impelling force and external activities and relationships.

Coral is a symbol of this asterism. Coral produces its offspring from within its own being. This feature of symbolizes the stage of evolution during which the Spirit is still encased in outer physical sheaths while its further evolution depends upon the unfoldment of its inherent potential. At this stage of manifestation tw primary impulses, the centrifugal and centripetal force express themselves as attraction and repulsion and come prominently into operation.
