Swati lies in the middle of Libra, extending from 186° 40' to 200° 00' (6° 40' to 20° 00' Libra). Though the sign in which this asterism is placed is ruled by Venus, thus heightening earthy sensitivities and material attachments. The asterism itself is governed by Rahu, a karmic planet which activates the superphysical forces. To regulate them, the four quarters of Swati are assigned to Jupiter and Saturn, which have a significant role in developing spirituality. Jupiter encourages righteous behavior while Saturn stifles the materialistic proclivities by producing frustration. Swati functions under the primary and secondary attributes of tamas, while on the tertiary or external level sattwa prevails. The presiding deity of the asterism is Vayu, the god of air.
