In working with astrology, we must also learn how to interpret symbols. A symbol does not offer a one-size-fits-all description. For example, Venus is our drive to create relationships, but it also describes our aesthetic sense, our artistic potentials, how we dress or style our hair, the fertility of the natural world, and physical or mundane things such as cosmetics and sugar.
Each time we read a chart, we have to think symbolically and use our imagination to interpret it, not just to appreciate that each symbol is being lived at many different levels, but also to acknowledge that symbols, by their nature, only offer symbolic information. This makes it impossible for a natal chart to tell us precisely what a person should do. Indeed, if it did allow for such exact and concrete prediction, it would suggest our lives are fated and mechanical. Instead, it reveals to us the rich and beautiful pattern of our individual life, if we can learn to understand the chart’s symbols.
