THE SUN

THE SUN

Sun - the Soul of the Universe

The Sun provides the gravitational pull that holds the planets together. It provides the energy which sustains them. The solar ray is linked with the innermost essence of the human individual. The atman or soul is represented by the Sun. It is Purusha as distinct from Prakriti. Together Purusha and Prakriti constitute the creative force, but Purusha is the male, who acts, who represents the positive or yang polarity of the life-force.

The Sun operates from the inner depths, illuminating the mind and soul, arousing spirituality and making the personality glow with radiance. Under the influence of the Sun, materialism, egotism, and wrong-doing are eliminated. Man identifies himself with others while at the same time maintaining his individual and regal status.

The Sun is most powerful in the Tenth house, signifying the relationship of the individual with his external environment. There the Sun takes one to the center of power. Being such a domineering influence, the Sun in the house of marriage (the Seventh house) is not conducive to happiness. Individuals with this placement will find cooperation with others very trying, and there will be misunderstanding and friction with one's spouse. In the house of creativity, the Fifth, the physical production of offspring will be restricted, though there may be one or two children - but there will be a great deal of mental creativity. Such individuals may be able to propound philosophical ideas with freshness and mass appeal. With the Sun in the Fourth house. the individual will be able to dive deeply into the depths of the psyche-as a result of which, in spite of his great empathy, he will be misunderstood. In the Ascendant, there will be baldness and sharpness of personality. The individual will be full of ideas and eager to implement them, but he will meet with impediments when he tries to actualize his plans.

In the Third, there will be trouble with siblings, but few barriers to the realization of one's dreams. In the Sixth house, there will be easy victory over competitors and all difficulties will be quickly surmounted.

The Sun is related to the heart, and to blindness if afflicted. The Sun is the light and life of the universe, and any impediment to its flow seriously affects the light coming from one's eyes. Being the soul or heart of the universe, it is also related to one's heart (though in this regard the Moon is also important). On the basis of the Sun's placement in a horoscope, the astrologer may predict one's relationship with the government, father or husband: the Sun also reflects the enthusiasm, refinement and idealism of the person. A haughty nature, tyrannical disposition and argumentative temperament are also related to the Sun's disposition in a horoscope.

Whatever the impact of the Sun, it provides the life-force, works from the center of one's being, and always guides the individual toward his peak of achievement.
