Emerald is from the Beryl family of stones. They are sometimes heat treated, which causes their color to turn blue and transform into Aquamarine.

But beyond its ability to be cut into a magnifying glass or used as glasses, the emerald enhances vision: the Egyptians of the High Empire used it for this purpose. The Greeks and the Romans stuck small emeralds in the corners of the of eyes nearsighted or farsighted people. The emerald's regenerative aspect is shown once again as farsightedness is mainly an ailment of aging.

An emerald gemstone worn as a pendant has a good effect on vision in and of itself. If you put one or two little emeralds in the sidepieces of a pair of eyeglasses, you will surprise yourself by putting down the glasses while you read with the naked eye.
