PUSHYA

Pushya is a unique asterism with several special features. It extends from 93° 20' to 106° 40' (3° 20' to 16° 40' Cancer), completely within Cancer, the sign ruled by the Moon. The Vedic deity Brihaspati, represented by Jupiter, the adviser of gods and men, presides over it, but Saturn, which is specially associated with tamasic inertial proclivities, has planetary ownership of the asterism. Jupiter promotes expansion, protects nourishes. while Saturn concretizes, condenses crystallizes nebulous matter. The combined effect of these two planets stabilizes energy and enables grow In an entirely new form. At this stage, the subjective aspect of cosmic Ideation becomes objective as an archetype.

The asterism is symbolized by a flower, a circle, or an arrow. Though these symbols emphasize different aspects of this nakshatra, they all highlight certain aspects of its mysterious qualities. They refer to vibrant tranquility, absence of undue agitation, faith in oneself, and fullness of life. Such a psychological structure exist only when the individual has attained a stage of growth where there is full faith in the Divine plan and an unflinching confidence in oneself. At this stage, the ego can combine within itself the cosmic heights and the deepest levels of the inner self. Purification of the psyche and an intuitive perception of the Divine plan are unique characteristics of Pushya.

It is important to note that Pushya, though functioning under the rajasic impulse, gets a secondary attribute of sattwa and a tertiary one of tamas. The primary motivational urge is guided by dharma righteousness. It is the penultimate asterism in which the rajasic guna is primary. Immersion in materiality is almost complete under Pushya, and consciousness reviving the memory of its primeval nature is unfolding. Those on the spiritual path will experience tranquility of mind but, rajasic as well as tamasic tendencies still being present, there may also be considerable mental agitation. The caste assigned to the asterism is that of Kshatriva. the warrior, which implies that there will be much purposeful activity under this asterism.
